![]() Surgeons for Sight is now mobilizing missions groups from churches in the area to take trips to La Romana, Dominican Republic and work with the Good Samaritan Hospital, where we provide cataract surgeries. This hospital serves those in desperate need, namely the Haitian sugarcane workers living in “bateyes” or camps surrounding La Romana. These people live in very difficult conditions with little hope of improving their lives or of finding immediate relief.
Restoration La Romana is a program that aims to restore hope for the people of La Romana in partnership with the local Good Samaritan Hospital by: - Providing care through medical and dental clinics in the bateys - Constructing homes and churches - Ministering to individuals and their families through Vacation Bible School and other outreach effort - Sponsoring and installing water filters in the bateyes - Working to support the local orphanage
If you or your church is interested in planning a trip to the Dominican Republic through this program, please contact Felicia Murphy at fmurphy@surgeonsforsight.org.
